It’s Texas y’all and the temperatures have exceeded 100 degrees for weeks on end. Don’t become a statistic and let record temperatures take you down! Staying hydrated isn’t the only trick to staying cool and balanced. Here are three tips you can do to beat the Texas heat without breaking the bank:
- PREPARE & PACK
Prepare each evening for the following day and pack some essentials that will keep you healthy. If you have high blood pressure or diabetes, you need to take extra precautions. Pack a ice bottle of water in a reusable container that holds at least 64 ounces. In addition, pack a powder electrolyte like Pedialyte that you can mix in if you notice you are sweating more than usual. Include a micro fiber towel you can soak in ice water and place on your neck if you feel you are overheated. Last, pack a small snack of almonds or walnuts that are lightly salted with sea salt. In the heat, snacks can melt in your car. Ensure the snacks are not made with chocolate that can easily melt.
- FIND A COOL WORKPLACE
If you don’t want to spend a ton of money on electricity cooling your stay-at-home office, find a shared space you can use that is cool and dry. Places like Starbucks are legendary for a small space to work, however, they aren’t the only space and sometimes they require a purchase of food or coffee. try locating the lobby of a nice hotel or even a dealership that has a small, quiet “office space”. They have WiFi available and typically do not require a purchase.
- WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING
Wearing the appropriate clothing can ensure you stay cool all day. Wicking materials like dri-fit for long sleeves and pants help you stay dry all day! Short sleeves expose your arms to damaging UV rays. Companies like Coolibar offer UV protected clothing in lightweight fabrics. In addition, don’t forget a good sunscreen with at least 30SPF and a hat!
